1:31 am - "You killed a Ghost Howl. You're a stud!"
I haven't rambled about RP in a good, long while. (Warning: Long text entry ahead.)

Is it such a good idea? Does it work? )

~~

Am going to post up pictures of my recent romp in the Wailing Caverns instance sometime soon, keep an eye out for those.

10:30 am - The blatant fanboying of my first MMORPG post.
So as not to spam my friends not interested in my first MMORPG, I'm throwing these things down here. Warning, the cut is pretty graphic intensive.

Under the cut: the Feathermoon RP Pride Parade, and assorted random imagery that I thought would be nice.

'Sink the boat' is the new crash. )

I figured I needed to shake the dust from this journal at one point or another, so here goes.

I followed a link from Penny Arcade, and after reading about how some talk radio DJ mouthed off on Gabe (wonderful, more alienation), I got this bit riiiiight at the bottom.

Now, I've seen a great deal of games on the PSP. Some of them look brilliant, some could use a real facelift, as they pretty much look like PS1 era stuff. And while I was nodding approval towards how Ridge Racers looked like, all that pretty much dropped the moment I saw the screenshots for Wipeout Pure.

Seeing that I was never able to play Wipeout Fusion properly (damn disc), this just makes me drool. LOOK AT THOSE SCREENSHOTS. ON A PSP. I can only hope that it looks this great in motion.

And knowing Sony, they ship the game with a quality soundtrack that will make feet tap and heads move. They always have. Quality game soundtracks didn't start with Grand Theft Auto, you know. Besides, they had plenty of reference material.

Now, to express my mild disappointment over Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal.

If it's not a rant... then what is it? )

Now, before this journal starts gathering cobwebs, I shall post a few thoughts on San Andreas and Ace Combat 5, just because.

I think they forgot to mention how funny this game is. )

Yeah, so it's more of the same. It still rocks my socks. )

And guess what? Ratchet and Clank 3 is out. And NFS: Underground 2 is due in less than a week.

I predict that this will not be good for my wordcount.

12:34 pm - Double whammy!
It has finally happened. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has arrived. The brother will be overjoyed.

At the same time, Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War was released yesterday. I'm overjoyed.

It's going to be a busy month indeed. I'll post my thoughts soon.

So my brother has taken the PS2 over to his friend's place. He won't be back until midnight.

What the heck do I do /now/? My whole life revolves around that black box.

...

I'm still waiting for something to happen.

Gotta make a plan gotta do what's right
Can't run around in circles if you wanna live a life
Now I don't wanna make a plan for a day far away
While I'm young and while I'm able all I wanna do is

Being unable to RP in the past few days has caused me to realize that I really am a recluse.

I mean, I'm looking at my Trillian buddy list, and I'm going "Wow, I don't even talk to these people. Like, at all." It's something that will undoubtedly get worse as I go back to school, since I may not be able to be online as often as I can during the holidays, for obvious reasons. They keep telling me that my sleep schedule's gone haywire, but I'm really just fluctuating between the sleep schedules of several different time zones. Or something like that. Uhm.

To somewhat cope with this unforeseeable turn of events, I turned to my PS2 (of course). The only problem being that there was nothing for me to idly obsess over while things get sorted out, so I simply trailed on a whim, and started a new game in Expert Mode on Kingdom Hearts.

And no one thought this marriage would work. )

I really ought to be taking care of my BOF4 game too, but oh well. Mindless button mashing > turn based RPG.

What he thought was H20 was H2SO4...

Zoids Struggle is a fighting game? Huh. And it's set in the Fuzors universe too, from looking at those screenshots. At least it looks okay. The Armor Break system seems lifted off from an old X-Box game made by the Mortal Kombat folks, except it was limb damage there. It doesn't look awfully complicated, and if anything, those three little bars near the life bar look like energy bars mapped to each separate attack button (Circle, Square and Cross). I get the feeling that this is a simple beat-em-up not unlike Naruto: Narutimate Hero or the Digimon Battle Arena series.

I'll probably get it nonetheless.

I still want Kamatari Damacy badly. It won an award too, for Technical Innovation/Engineering/something In A Game. In Japan, of course. But hey, at least it ain't G-Phoria. Along with KD, they gave an award to a mobile phone game and the Taiko no Tatsujin drum kit peripheral for the PS2.

I think the DDR dance pad should be given a Lifetime Achievement Award, at least.

12:30 am - Lunch at midnight
So. The PokeMUSH picked a really nice time to die. That time would be the night of my birthday, just as Streetwind and I were getting somewhere with a scene.

I checked back again just now, some 24 hours later, and it's still down. So I guess that pretty much means the contract with Mushpark has expired, and negates any usefulness that MuckClient has left to give me.

I think it's odd for me to be saying this, since many many months ago, I actually wanted it to keep staying up. But you'll all agree with me anyway.

It's about time.

EDIT, October 2nd 2004, 8:25 AM: The MUSH is still up, and doing fine. The old address that I've been using, (address:mushpark.com, port:9991) probably expired. Maybe Mushpark got a new client, but as far as I know, the one that the Pepster gave me works fine.

You can connect at pokemush.mushpark.com, 9991. Apologies for the inconvenience and the assumptions.

[info]streetwind, AKA Murphy's b*tch, is currently suffering from a lack of a desktop computer. While normally this would be a relatively simple affair, having a warranty and all, Streetwind has about as much luck as a beached dolphin with a hex trying to win the lottery. If you believe in the power of good mojo fairies, clap your hands and wish the girl good luck.

The subject title refers to me having slept for about twelve hours (eleven and a half, actually), and waking up around midnight to eat. Lunch. (If mom makes a big lunch, we usually eat it for dinner as well.) So yeah.

I really could have used several six-packs of Red Bull last night. Or Bawls. Maybe I should go to ThinkGeek.com and order some.

Along those lines, I swear off using MSN Messenger to RP with, EVER AGAIN. Dealing with the 300 character limit is one thing. It actually helps to see portions of the pose being written, and then reacting to them right away, as opposed to having one deluge of text come at you and then reacting to it slooooowly. Now, having to deal with unsent messages every turn pose? That's another. And then watching those messages finally circle around the world and flush down your screen in one unadulterated torrent is nothing short of painful. Play-by-E-mail from this point onward.

On the upside, padding your wallet with RM 300 after just spending a hundred earlier really rocks. I'm so materialitic.

6:52 am - The only whining I want to hear, is from the car.
There's a song in Burnout 3 that I've long since switched to "Menu Only", along with a whole truckload of others. (EA Trax won't let you turn off tracks. Bastards.) While I've forgotten the name of the band and the song, the album title stuck with me.

Dear Diary, My Teenage Angst Has A Bodycount

See? I knew all those badly written blogs will kill someone at one point or another.

My rant is short. Burnout 3 soundtrack = TEH SUK, with the exception of the tracks by Ash (duh), Jimmy Eat World, Franz Ferdinand, and surprisingly, that Yellowcard tune. They're bearable, for some unfathomable reason. And while the addition of The Ramones on the soundtrack is commendable, it just doesn't fit.

So remember to pack that X-Box full of the right kind of racing music, lest the angst overcomes you. I recommend plenty of POD. Alive and Boom are definitely worth racing to. Failing that, or if you have the PS2 version, get a CD player and a good soundtrack. You'll thank me for it.

5:42 am - CURSE: You have been dismissed.
I figure, since I don't post on my old logpage-slash-IC-journal thing no more, that I'd throw this over here.

It's been a while since RP has made my heart skip a few beats like this. Once again, I'm reminded of why I actually RP. I guess I sorta lost that zing after a while, that relentless enthusiasm that comes with playing a scene with nifty twists and turns to the plot. I don't think of RPing as playing someone else anymore, I just think of it as writing stories with someone else. It's better that way. I don't have to deal with stepping in the character's shoes, or debating about whether it's alive in me or not... I just write their stories. And see things from their view.

It's good not to take yourself /too/ seriously.

The following is a log from last Friday. Streetwind finally comes face-to-face with the one thing that has been troubling their lives for the past half-year, and evidently, it's not going down easily. The battle that follows is a fight for everything Navarone and Streetwind have ever worked for, ever lived for, and it all boils down to a duel between Streetwind, and a curse that has taken possession of Navarone himself.

The Desire To Live. )

I believe I have a very interesting habit that I apply to my platformers.

You see, ever since I got Ratchet & Clank 2 (this was around last year), my brother noted something. He said that every 3D platformer I ever had, I finished in one week. I don't know if this is valid for my earlier play sessions or not, but ever since then, every platformer I've ever played, I've finished the main quest in a week. The extra unlockable stuff I usually go through after that.

Sly 2: Band Of Thieves is no different. But WOW. Damn, that was fun. I'm chronically addicted to pickpocketing everyone I see now. It is harder and longer (no dirty jokes, alright?) than the first game, that's for sure.

Though I liked the boss fights from the first game better. And the boss personalities aren't so developed here as they were in the first Sly. It was still a lot of fun, so there. I attest to the fact that I spent the past three days playing it with only 12 hours of sleep total. It's that addicting, and the story is better than ever. That's what kept me awake for so long, anyway.

And now, I can go back to my Burnout 3 FAQ. Cheerio.

Ooh look, Read more... )

I guess while I'm here, I'll make sure you never look at Professor Oak the same way again.

VG Cats rocks.

Who would have known that Square-Enix would have tried to actually copy someone?

I don't know about everyone else, but Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time feels like one big attempt to cash in on hyper-realized RPGs. Namely, Square Enix has become the green eyed monster over Xenosaga.

Light attack/heavy attack mechanics? There.
Interstellar politics and giant sprawling metropolii? There.
And most important of all, a giant dictionary dedicated to holding nothing more than pretentious information about the game's universe. Do I really need to know what all these races are, when they're all just humans with barely distinguishable features from your typical homo sapien? All the organizations in the game? What a quad scanner or gravitic warp drive is?

Dear lord, NO.

Thankfully, these are all secondary details, since the game is still stellar without them. I just wish that it wouldn't throw all the silly and needlessly confusing terminology at me all the time.

Idly thinking of writing a Burnout 3 FAQ. Just a strategy guide and unlocking guide concerning some of the harder races and crashes. I mean, I've gotten all available golds, all I need is the last two cars (Oval Circuit Racer, Euro Circuit Racer)... which sadly, require Takedown-related stuff to . All of them pretty much involve tonnes of luck to get, so...

Also. Gundam has been fixed. Blu-tack is my friend~~

And Sly 2: Band Of Thieves is out. WANTWANTWANT

9:44 am - You've come a long way, baby.
Flash would certainly be an easy way for folks perusing the web to try out prototype games. I mean, look at Alien Hominid. That started out as a popular shooter on Newsgrounds-- now it's getting its own full fledged game, with GameCube and PS2 versions.

Some things just push that extra mile.

In addition to that little platform shooter, we have... another platform shooter. Can you tell that I love these sorts of games?

Does it have the Omega Factor? )
